What was once a Maggie’s Club affiliate is resurfacing after an extensive mahogany wood and plush crimson carpeting face-lift. The result is Bar One: neon hip meets brandy sipping old boys club, including plenty of recognizable traits from the old Maggie’s. A loyal crowd of polished, older expats wander quiet lounges dotted with oversized couches and pool tables, but the dance floor inside blasts indiscriminate rock; we even caught a bit of electroclash intro to what sounded like The Cure. Themed VIP lounges on the second floor deliver RMB 300 bottles of red wine, and an eventual terrace on the top floor promises cool air on balmy nights. Bar One is optimistically offering a weekly Lady’s Night to offset RMB 50 cocktails, and to attract a wider variety of business women. Jun 05
